You Know You Live in West Hartford When…
March 3rd, 2010 categories: Random, west hartford
It’s been a few years since I called West Hartford my home. So to be back in town reminds me that it is a strange place indeed - at least in relation to the rest of Central CT and in comparison to every other town I’ve lived in. Here are some of my observations, as a former resident and repeat new resident:

You Know You Live in West Hartford When…
A police officer in a Volvo may pull you over.
It’s not uncommon to see someone at the grocery store/shoveling snow/walking their dog in a full length fur coat.
There is a long line to check out books at the library. And the library is open on Sunday.
On a sunny day, you may get run over on your sidewalk by other people running/biking/dog walking.
From promoting a school play, political candidate, or opposing this thing or that, everyone has a cause.
You don’t have to actually ever leave town, other than to go to the hospital.
The downtown isn’t called the downtown. You call it the Center. And it’s hopping on a Friday night…not deserted.
Your dentist, Realtor, doctor, police officer, teacher, plumber all live in the same town - who needs to go anywhere else, right?

CT Real Estate Unleashed Now on Twitter and Facebook
January 21st, 2009 categories: Random
CTRealEstateUnleashed is now on Facebook and Twitter.
CTRealEstateUnleashed is About You
Facebook is About Me
CTRealEstateUnleashed.com is more about you, the home buyer and seller in Central Connecticut, than it is about me. Sure, there’s the profile, my mug, and a little me sprinkled in my blog posts. But mostly it’s information I think you want to read about and resources to help you.
On the other hand, Facebook shows you much more of my interests, my friends and my personal life. While you’ll get to read some of my blog posts on Facebook, you’re more likely to see me comment on a movie, talk about my day, connect with a friend or post a link to a video I like. The only condition is “friendship.” You friend me and I accept - much easier than high school. Read the rest of this entry »

How I’m Avoiding Election Depression
November 3rd, 2008 categories: Random
I started to feel sad a few weeks ago. Questions have been racing through my head…Will Obama raise my taxes? Will McCain start another war?

Although neither candidate embodies my ideals, I have made my choice. I’m not one of the “undecided,” nor have I been for months. But I’m not thrilled about my candidate of choice. Nor am I thrilled about what happens when either of these two candidates wins. Unlike those that will be depressed when their candidate loses, I’m depressed either way.
Nothing combats depression like a good ol’ fashioned spending spree. No parties for me…although you may notice a slight uptick in the economy when I’m done.
Here’s my plan for Wednesday, November 5th:
9:30 AM - Get a manicure. Even if I feel awful, I can look good.
11 AM - Go to Apple Store and finally buy a new iMac.
12:30 PM - Eat lunch with a friend. We have vowed to not mention the election to each other however that will be all we talk about. In order to combat the sad feelings this is likely to cause, I need to do more shopping.
1:30 PM - Test drive cars. It’s time to turn in my VW Passat and I’ve got my eye on the Toyota Highlander, among others.
3:30 PM - Start XMAS shopping early…Toys R’ US for my daughter and Nordstrom for me. Santa is going to buy me a new handbag and a dollhouse for my daughter. Buy wine and ice cream on the way home.
5:00 PM - Make dinner, eat ice cream and drink wine.
7:00 PM - Set up my new computer and drink more wine.
9:00 PM - Take some Aspirin, drink a glass of water, go to sleep and hope I don’t have a hangover.
